The Fieldpiece ASX14 is an essential accessory for air conditioning professionals. Studies have shown that over half of all AC systems in the U.S. are either undercharged or overcharged, leading to decreased efficiency and even premature compressor failure. The ASX14 solves this problem by measuring suction line and liquid line temperatures and pressures, and calculating actual superheat and subcooling in real time using built-in P/T charts. This powerful tool works with R-22 and R-410A fixed orifice systems as well as TXV/TEV regulated systems. To get accurate readings with the ASX14, simply hook it up to the system and wait for it to stabilize. The ASX14 measures refrigerant pressure and temperature simultaneously, then calculates and displays actual superheat or subcooling readings on your meter or electronic handle. The device features a 1/4" industry standard fitting for actual pressure and comes with an advanced pipe clamp k-type thermocouple for actual line temperature. You can even select your preferred refrigerant (R22 or R410A) and units (English or metric) for easy measurements. Measuring actual superheat and subcooling is crucial to determining the proper refrigerant charge and operating conditions for AC systems. Superheat is the difference between the actual temperature of the refrigerant as it leaves the evaporator and the boiling point temperature of the refrigerant in the evaporator coil. On fixed orifice systems, measuring superheat is the best indication of the proper refrigerant charge and operating conditions. Add or remove refrigerant as needed based on the actual superheat readings. Subcooling, on the other hand, is the difference between the boiling point of the refrigerant in the condenser and the actual temperature of the refrigerant as it leaves the condenser. Subcooling is the best indication of the state of charge in the refrigerant system on TXV systems. If the subcooling rises too high, liquid may be backed into the compressor, causing damage.
